Free in February

26 January 30, 2013 in Announcements by

BillionGraves loves all of our users! To show how much we appreciate you, we are giving you (yes, everyone) a FREE BillionGraves Plus subscription for the month of February! (For our users who have already purchased BillionGraves Plus, we’ll give you an extra month on your membership.)

Thank you for donating your time, efforts, and energy to the BillionGraves project!

During this month, be sure to take advantage of these special features. You can read about each of the features of BillionGraves Plus below or you can watch the BillionGraves Plus video to see what you’ll be getting!

Favorites
Bookmark your favorite BillionGraves records and organize them into groups. This makes them easy to access later when you want to bring up their record quickly.

    Here’s how you do it:

  1. Login to your BillionGraves account.
  2. Find the record you would like to mark as a “Favorite” (you can do this by clicking on the Search tab at the top of the BillionGraves homepage).
  3. Go to the top right hand corner and click on the black star.
  4. This will bring up a box where you can either put the image in an already existing category or create a new category.
  5. Click save!

    How to access your favorites:

  1. Click on the Tools tab on the BillionGraves homepage.
  2. Click on “Favorites.”
  3. The list of all your bookmarked records in their categories will come up.
  4. Click on the name of the person whose record you want to see.

Record Watches
Get notified by email when a new record is added with a family name and location that matches your criteria. For instance, if you are interested in the Peterson line of your family that lived in Boston, Massachusetts, you could be notified when a new record is added that matches your criteria.

    Here’s how you do it:

  1. Login to your BillionGraves account.
  2. Go to the Notifications tab on the BillionGraves homepage.
  3. Click on “Create Record Watch.”
  4. Type in the Surname you want to be notified of.
  5. Optionally, you can filter the records by location. Add a Country, State, County or City using the drop-down boxes.
  6. Click Save!
  7. When new records are added, a notification will be sent to your email.

Virtual Walkthrough / Nearby Records
Every wonder who was buried nearby a family plot? Now you can find out without leaving home. Just imagine what previously unknown relatives are waiting to be discovered!

    Here’s how you do it:

  1. Login to your BillionGraves account.
  2. Go to a record that you want to “look around.” (Use the Search page or one of your Favorites)
  3. Click on the “Nearby Records” tab at the top of the page.
  4. Nearby records will be listed along the left edge. Click on one to take a closer look!
  5. The map on the right shows the location of the original record and the nearby record that you just clicked on. The orange pin is the original record and the bouncing blue pin is where the nearby record is located.
  6. To view the detailed page for nearby records, click on the blue name below the image box.

Thanks again for your participation and dedication! We love you!

How do I get access to the Free in February features?

    • Reply by Lisa on February 4, 2013

      Scott,

Like I said below, I just talked to our CTO and we realized we need to run one more script to give you access to the BG+ features. This will be fixed tonight and you will have access to those no later than tomorrow morning.

      Thanks!

      Lisa

Do you have to sign up for an upgrade? I couldn’t click on the black star, without signing up to pay.

      Kim,

You won’t have to sign up, it will just work automatically for you. I talked to our CTO and we realized we need to run one more script to give you access to the BG+ features.

    Lisa,

Do you have an estimate on when the BG+ features will be available? They are not available as of the afternoon of the 5th.

    Thanks.

    • Reply by Lisa on February 5, 2013

      Robert,

They should be available as of last night at 10pm. So it should be working by now. What specifically is not working for you?

If you prefer, you can email support@billiongraves.com. This might be an error on your individual account.

        Lisa,

When I try to create a create a Record Watch, I get the message: “You have 0 of 0 record watches available. Cannot add additional notifications. You have used all of your available notifications.”

          Robert,

I talked to our developers and they found the problem. They are currently fixing this, so you should have access within the hour. Sorry for the inconvenience.

“Free in February” STILL not available!! Tried to look up nearby graves and click me into buying a subscription window.

    • Reply by Lisa on February 6, 2013

      Ina,

We just checked your individual account and it should be working. Please refresh the page (maybe clear your cache too) and try again. Let us know if for some reason this doesn’t work. Thanks!

    • Reply by Lisa on February 6, 2013

Betty, did you try accessing it recently? We had a glitch we fixed yesterday, but it should be good now. What part wasn’t working for you?

Question: I want to be able to upload grave stones pics only.
I have a subscription to Ancestry.
Am I going to have to purchase a subscription from you, too? (… just to record the grave stones???)

    …b

    • Reply by Lisa on February 11, 2013

B, you will not have to purchase a subscription to BillionGraves in order to upload grave stones to the BillionGraves database. You will need to sign up as a user (which will create a BillionGraves account for you) in order to upload any images to BillionGraves, but this is free to do at any time.

Is there a way to see a listing of all records for a cemetery rather than just searching on one name?

    • Reply by Lisa on February 15, 2013

Yes there is! So when you click on Search at the top of the BillionGraves website it will bring up a window where you can search individual names. If you click the “Cemetery Lookup” tab, you can pull up all the records in that cemetery either by clicking on each of the individual icons one at a time or all at once by clicking on the “Headstone Images” tab below.

      • Reply by Carrie on February 15, 2013

Thanks for the info Lisa. But neither of those options (individually clicking icons or looking at the headstone images) is really a list of all records. I was hoping for an actual alphabetical list. That way, if you know of a family’s last name, you can see all people with that last name in the cemetery. I know you can search on a last name down to the county level, but eventually that will give too many results, so it would be nice to be able to search a single cemetery somehow.

        • Reply by Lisa on February 18, 2013

          Carrie,

Oh I see! Yeah you can do this by searching for whatever cemetery you want to look in, then under the picture of the cemetery on the map there are a bunch of tabs. If you click on the “Records” tab (the second one in and it will have a number by it) it will bring up a bar that you can search for a family name or you can click on any letter of the alphabet below it and it will bring up all the records starting with that letter by last name. Does that make sense? Email me at lisa@billiongraves.com if you have any other questions. Thanks!

I found this site some time ago but haven’t used because I cannot see all of it.
The way the website was created, apparently doesn’t work with older monitors.
I can’t seem to find an adjustment to be able to get the screen to fit the whole page in. I have tried everything I can think of.
I can’t use it if I can’t see it. It loses 1/4 of the right side of the screen.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

Sherry, I’m not sure why this is happening, so I sent it on to Tom at customer support. He will be able to help you out here and you should get an email back in the next day or so. Thanks!
