Otter Creek Holdings—in conjunction with BillionGraves, My Legacy Memorial, and Legacy Mobile—is proud to announce the release of groundbreaking technology in Family History: LegacyTec. Hudson Gunn, Vice
President of Otter Creek Holdings, announced it at MBNA’s Industry show this weekend.
LegacyTec gives you access to all the information connected to a certain headstone based on a picture. All you do is take a picture of a headstone, and this technology will bring up information about that headstone from BillionGraves, Family Search, My Legacy Memorial and other sites. LegacyTec supersedes the QR codes you currently see on headstones by eliminating the need for them all together.
LegacyTec uses the latest and greatest in technology to bring up any information about headstones based on their GPS coordinates so that anyone with a smartphone in a cemetery can take a picture and find out more about the particular headstone they are visiting. Because of Otter Creek Holdings’ wide base of partnerships with other genealogical companies (i.e. FamilySearch, Ancestry.com, Archives, My Heritage and more) this technology will make Family History research through multiple resources easier by incorporating innovative technology.
This new technology will also eliminate the need for QR codes by making online memorials (created through My Legacy Memorial) available by simply taking a picture of the headstone.

The Legacy Mobile App
We are very excited about the impact this top-notch technology will have on BillionGraves and the genealogy community as a whole. With the click of a single button, access to pictures, videos, stories and actual genealogy information about the person buried there will be easily accessible, making researching your family history new and engaging!
Stay tuned for the release of Legacy Mobile (with LegacyTec) to the App store and Google Play coming soon!
Watch the video to see how you will be able to use it!

I am so excited for this app to come out! AMAZING technology! Gave me goosebumps!
Thanks Colette! We SO excited too!
Will this app be available for android devices?
Yes it will be Darlene. It’s not available yet (we’re still finishing up the iOS stuff first) and then we’ll release that app as soon as we can.
Will the App work on androids? If not yet when?
Do you have to be online when at the cemetery stone location or just have the GPS data embedded in the photo for later location resolution? Not sure how to work that question – hope you know what I mean. A tablet has GPS enabled but is not on the web until a later time – can this App work that way or do you have to be on the web when the pic is taken? So you could take a series of pics at a cemetery then upload them later to BillionGraves when you get home and use this App at that time?
I cannot wait to try this out – amazing!!! I think this will have a major impact on the genealogy world —-all kind of crazy cemetery people hanging out in cemeteries all of a sudden…..bringing familysearch and ancestry and graveyards together…..wow… full circle! I just cannot believe it! Wow!
I was wondering who would be out front BillionGraves or FindaGrave, guess I got my answer…….hope FindAGrave joins in I think.
Yes, Mary, it will be available for Androids as soon as we can get it out. Not sure when that will happen yet, but I’ll let you know when I know!
As of right now, the app needs both GPS and internet connection at the same time. Perhaps in the future we can come up with a way to add this feature. So we’ll keep this in mind! Thanks!
…Also…..this makes me want to photo all the stones in all my local cemeteries all of a sudden…..and I am hoping that someone photos all of the stones in cemeteries where my ancestors are – and upload them all to BillionGraves. I have been searching for stones by ones and twos here as there when a request for a photo was made by a relative…no more will I do the few photos at a time routine…I suddenly want to photo every stone I can as they will now connect to the known data about the ancestor —— wow this is just so amazing!
And thanks Mary for your enthusiasm! We love seeing people just as excited as we are! Thank you for all your contributions! That’s the spirit!
This sounds like a wonderful idea and I hope it all works as envisioned.
At the same time, I hope the fee for the Legacy Memorial will be reduced from the current $129 when there is no physical marker required. While I understand the need for a company to make a profit somewhere along the way, that amount of money makes it unlikely that people will memorialize all the graves in a family.
Anxiously awaiting Legacytec, any idea on the app release date?
We’re just waiting for the app to go through the App store any day now. We’ll let you know for sure when it happens!
